USA’s ‘Brave New World’ has landed a major recurring star, Demi Moore.  She will play Linda, “the brash, hard-living mother of John the Savage,” who will be portrayed by Alden Ehrenreich.  The series, which hales from David Wiener, Grant Morrison, and Brian Taylor from UCP and Amblin Television, adapts Aldous Huxley’s seminal science fiction novel, first published in 1932.  Despite being written so long ago, the themes of a society kept in check by a lifestyle of hedonism, drugs, non-monogamous sex, and no records of history ring true today, perhaps more than ever before.

Jessica Brown Findlay and Harry Lloyd play the other two leads, Lenina Crowne and Bernard Marx, two citizens of New London, who take a vacation from their utopian society and encounter Ehrenreich’s John the Savage.

As citizens of New London, Bernard Marx and Lenina Crowne have only ever known a rigid social order, a perfect pharmaceutical called Soma, and a culture of instant gratification and ubiquitous sex. Curious to explore life beyond the strictures of their society, the two New Worlders embark on a vacation to the Savage Lands, where they become embroiled in a harrowing and violent rebellion. Bernard and Lenina are rescued by John the Savage, who escapes with them back to New London. John’s arrival in the New World soon threatens to disrupt its utopian harmony, leaving Bernard and Lenina to grapple with the repercussions. The three become entwined in a fraught relationship that awakens them to the dangers of their own conditioning.

Moore’s casting, in a recurring role, follows the announcement of the rest of the regular cast– Kylie Bunbury as Lenina’s best friend, Frannie; Hannah John-Kamen as hedonistic artist, Wilhelmina “Helm” Watson; Sen Mitsuji as Henry Foster, one of Bernard’s co-workers at The Bureau of Stability; Joseph Morgan as Epsilon CJack60; and Nina Sosanya as Mustafa Mond, a “World Controller who is responsible for maintaining New London’s social structure and utopian promise.”

While Moore was one of the biggest stars in Hollywood throughout the ’90s, lately she has focused on TV work, on ‘Empire’, and ‘Animals’.  Among her many major films have been ‘Ghost’, ‘A Few Good Men’, ‘Indecent Proposal’, ‘The Scarlet Letter’, ‘Striptease’, ‘GI Jane’, and ‘Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle’.  She will next be seen in the comedy ‘Corporate Animals’.

USA has not announced when ‘Brave New World’ will be released, but presumably, it won’t be until 2020 at the earliest.
