MGM TV Is Bringing Aurora Rising To The Small ScreenAuthors Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff have received a lot of praise for their young adult novel ‘Aurora Rising,’ and now it’ll be heading to the small screen thanks to MGM TV. The television arm of MGM clearly saw a lot of potential in the book as it was only released by Random House on May 7th of this year! The news is so fresh about this pick up that a showrunner and writers have yet to be tapped to help bring this novel to life.

Here is what the book is about:

The year is 2380, and the graduating cadets of Aurora Academy are being assigned their first missions. Star pupil Tyler Jones is ready to recruit the squad of his dreams, but his own boneheaded heroism sees him stuck with the dregs nobody else in the academy would touch . . .

A cocky diplomat with a black belt in sarcasm

A sociopath scientist with a fondness for shooting her bunkmates
A smart-ass tech whiz with the galaxy’s biggest chip on his shoulder
An alien warrior with anger-management issues
A tomboy pilot who’s totally not into him, in case you were wondering

And Ty’s squad isn’t even his biggest problem– that’d be Aurora Jie-Lin O’Malley, the girl he’s just rescued from interdimensional space. Trapped in cryo-sleep for two centuries, Auri is a girl out of time and out of her depth. But she could be the catalyst that starts a war millions of years in the making, and Tyler’s squad of losers, discipline cases and misfits might just be the last hope for the entire galaxy.

NOBODY PANIC.

While much of the creative staff is still up in the air for this series, Bill Todman Jr. and Edward Millstein are set to executive produce the show while Limor Hakim will co-produce from Level 1 Entertainment. As the creators, Kaufman and Kristoff are on board as consulting producers. Finally, MGM television has both Max Kisbye, MGM’s Executive Vice President, Television Development and Production and Rob Hochberg, Director, Television Development and Production overseeing the project.

MGM President, Television Production and Development Steve Stark is excited about the series:

“Amie and Jay have created something really special with Aurora Rising. Their novel blends comedy, action, and heart seamlessly in such a wonderful way. We are all looking forward to working with them, Bill and the whole creative team at Level 1 to bring this impressive story to television.”

Todman and Milstein are eager to get to work as:

“We are beyond excited to be working with MGM Television, Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff to make this epic space opera into a fantastic television series.”

This isn’t the first deal with Kaufman that MGM has due to a previous agreement that will see the studio develop the “Starbound” trilogy which was co-written with Meagan Spooner.
