The Swamp Has Had Enough In This Trailer For 'Swamp Thing

DC Universe is presenting something completely different with its latest series.  While ‘Doom Patrol’ offered a surreal slant to super-heroics, ‘Swamp Thing’ takes a straight horror approach.  The first episode premieres this Friday, so to get fans pumped, here is the most revealing trailer yet.  Yet, while the trailer gives a bit more exposure to the ensemble cast and the plot, once again the titular plant creature remains hidden only to pop in for a jump scare at the very end.

Stunt performer Derek Mears embodies the Swamp Thing in a practical suit, with actor Andy Bean portraying his human alter ego Alec Holland and lending his voice to his creature form.  Crystal Reed co-stars as scientist Abby Arcane from the CDC who must return to her hometown after a mysterious plague breaks out.

Check out the horrific trailer below:

‘Swamp Thing’ follows Abby Arcane as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.

There appear to have been some behind-the-scenes shakeups resulting in the first season being whittled down from 13 episodes to 10.  Hopefully, that won’t impact what viewers see when they tune in.  (‘Titans’ underwent some shuffling behind-the-scenes, and unfortunately, it showed in a few places.)

‘Swamp Thing’ hails from creators Mark Verheiden (‘Falling Skies’) and Gary Dauberman (‘The Conjuring’ franchise).  Executive producer James Wan is also an overseer of ‘The Conjuring’ brand.

The cast also includes Will Patton as villain Avery Sunderland with Kevin Durand as Jason Woodrue, who, in the comics becomes a plant creature himself, the villainous Floronic Man.  Virginia Madsen appears as Avery Sunderland’s wife, Maria.  Leonardo Nam portrays Abigail’s partner Harlan Edwards.  Maria Sten portrays Liz Tremaine, Abigail’s childhood best friend, with Henderson Wade as Matt Cable, Abigail’s high school boyfriend, now a police officer, while Jennifer Beals plays his mother, Sheriff Lucilia Cable.  Jeryl Prescott appears as blind fortuneteller Madame Xanadu, while Ian Ziering will depict stunt man Dan Cassidy, a.k.a. DC superhero Blue Devil.

‘Swamp Thing’ hits DC Universe on Friday!
