Toy News Tuesday: The Real Deal

It’s that time again, that beloved time we look forward to each and every week! Time for an all new Toy News Tuesday! We’re the one weekly column right here on ScienceFiction.com where we seek out all of the awesome news you need to know about any announcements and cool happenings in the toy industry and put them all in one easy to find place for you!

The summer sun is heating up and there are plenty of hot new items being announced for all of you collectors out there! This week we’ve got new stuff from NECA, Chronicle Collectibles, Super7, and more! We’ve even got collectibles from franchises we haven’t heard from in years! It’s a throwback and a half in  the Toy News for the week of June 11th 2019!

Excellent!

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the premiere of the time-traveling duo Bill and Ted’s monumental first film ‘Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure’! We have received some cool collectibles based on the pair’s films and short-lived animated series in the past, but over three decades these releases have been few and far between. Thankfully the team at Incendium is ready to bring fans something truly non-heinous with their new ‘Bill & Ted’ 5″ scale toyline!

We have mentioned these in the past, but this is the first time we are seeing proper renders of the actual figures themselves instead of just an art mock-up! The line will be comprised of our two titular heroes, Bill S. Preston and Ted ‘Theodore’ Logan, with each figure sporting around 10 points of articulation and including an electric guitar accessory! These figures come on classic cardback packaging and will run you around $30 each if you want to add them to your collection. You can pre-order yours here!

Chronicle Ain’t Afraid Of No Ghosts!

The ‘Ghostbusters’ brand is one that never seems to lose any of its luster with fans. Even with the 2016 reboot film that divided the fanbase pretty distinctly, it’s hard to deny that the brand has some insane level of staying power after 35 years with only three films and a few animated series under its belt. This week ‘Ghostbusters Fan Fest’ was held in Culver City California on the Sony Studios lot, with fans gathering from all over the world to celebrate the film’s 35th anniversary with members of the cast and crew behind the films. The team at Chronicle Collectibles was there too in order to show off their brand new statue line based on the iconic ‘The Real Ghostbusters’ animated series! Each piece in the new polyresin statue line stands approximately 10″ tall and features each of the four main characters. Slimer will also be made available as a bonus to those that order all four of the Ghostbusters themselves, and will unfortunately not be made available separately. Each statue is priced at $149.99, so the whole set will run you around $600 if you want to make sure you get Slimer too as an added bonus statue! These are up for pre-order from Chronicle Collectibles now!

More ‘Marvel Legends’ Throwbacks

The team at Hasbro is heading straight for your nostalgia buttons as they bring back their Marvel Vintage Legends toyline for another wave of awesome throwback action! The latest 6″ scale Marvel Vintage Legends wave is based on the 90’s Toybiz X-Men line and features retro stylized packaging similar to that of the figures seen on toy store shelves in the early 1990s. Figures in this wave include Iceman (fully iced up), Cyclops (X-Factor costume), Wolverine (black costume), Storm (white Jim Lee era costume), Dazzler (80’s Style with bomber jacket) and Silver Samurai! These figures are due in stores this summer!

No Tricks, Just Treats

Once again the team at NECA is doing their best to bring horror fans their hearts deepest desires. This time around it’s in the form of an all-new Ultimate figure, which is actually a redo of a figure they had done quite some time ago, with ‘Trick R Treat’s Sam finally getting the Ultimate treatment! The new 7″ NECA Ultimate Sam figure stands approximately 5″ tall and looks to feature over 15 points of articulation; which is impressive for a figure scaled this small! He will come packaged with four interchangeable heads, with two each of masked and unmasked versions. Sam also comes loaded with his treat sack, a candy bar, a lollipop, two jack-o-lanterns (one even lights up!) and some alternative hands. The all-new NECA Ultimate Sam figure from the film ‘Trick R Treat’ is expected to hit stores this September for around $28.

She’s Beauty, She’s Grace, She’ll Straight Up Cut Off Your Face

We recently saw Mezco add everyone’s favorite killer doll to their line of stylized horror icons in the Mezco Designer Series, but what good is Chucky going to be without his beloved better half? Mezco seems to be thinking the same thing, and they’re rectifying the problem in the immediate future with the newly announced Mezco Designer Series Tiffany figure! This figure is based on Tiffany’s appearance in ‘Bride Of Chucky’, featuring 9 points of articulation and standing around 6″ tall. Much like the other figures in this heavily stylized line, Tiffany features a completely sculpted outfit. Tiffany will be packing heat, as the only accessory included is a scaled pistol. This all-new Mezco Designer Series Tiffany figure is expected to release this winter with a suggested retail price of $33.

Super7 Sneak Peeks

San Diego Comic-Con is just a few weeks away and the team at Super7 just can’t seem to contain their excitement about some of their upcoming releases that they plan on showing off at the convention! This week we got a pretty big sneak peek at several high profile items heading our way later this year from the crew at Super7 including new figures of Voltron, The Toxic Crusader, and Ren & Stimpy! The 80’s and 90’s kids within all of us are screaming with happy happy joy joy after seeing these! The best part? These are all up for pre-order now! “They Do Move In Herds!”

Mattel is breaking new ground with their fan targeted ‘Jurassic Park: Legacy’ toyline! The line, which is available exclusively at Target stores, is giving fans their first ever true to scale Brachiosaurus toy! Yes, that’s right, it seriously took us a whopping 26 years for someone to make a toy of the very first dinosaur we see in one of the most iconic films of all time that is actually in scale with the action figure line! The ‘Jurassic Park: Legacy’ Brachiosaurus stands 36″ tall and 42″ in length from head to tail! As a Target exclusive, you’ll want to snatch this one up quickly for its retail price of $50 before it goes extinct and shoots up in value on the secondary market! The ‘Jurassic Park: Legacy’ Brachiosaurus hits Target stores later this year.

Funko Lights The Signal

This year we’re celebrating Batman’s 80th Anniversary, which is a huge landmark! The team at Funko has been celebrating all throughout the year with a number of new Batman-themed collectibles and a who series of POP! Vinyls dedicated to the characters vast history. The latest addition to the line is a POP! Vinyl Movie Moment from the ending of ‘Batman Begins’ featuring Batman and Commissioner Gordon atop the GCPD building with the Batsignal that really lights up! Yes, you read that correctly, the Batsignal actually lights up in your display, creating a truly unique piece of Batman history in your collection. The Batsignal POP! Vinyl Movie Moment is anticipated to hit stores this summer!

Funko Gets ‘Disenchanted’

Matt Groening, creator of pop culture icons like ‘The Simpsons’ and ‘Futurama’, is a legend of the animation community. Last year when it was announced that he would be teaming up with Netflix to create an all-new animated series that skewers the world of high-fantasy, fans were ecstatic! ‘Disenchantment’ premiered last summer and was overall well received by fans of Groening’s previous efforts. We aren’t surprised to hear that the team at Funko is releasing an all-new wave of POP! Vinyls based on the show; just surprised that it took them this long to do it! The new wave of ‘Disenchantment’ POP! Vinyls include Bean, Elfo, Luci, and King Zog! It is expected to hit stores this September.

And with that, we bring this week’s Toy News Tuesday to a close! What do you think about the new items announced this week? Do you plan on picking up anything we mentioned in this week’s column?
