This was news to me but apparently Ripley herself, Sigourney Weaver (‘Avatar’,’Chappie’), has never seen any of the ‘Aliens vs. Predator’ movies. I wasn’t too surprised at this as she had previously stated that the entire concept was a horrible one. During this week’s Alien Day celebration she was at a special attendance of the 1986 classic ‘Aliens’ with James Cameron when a Q&A with the audience revealed this fun little tidbit.
I can’t at all say that I blame her. It is a strong opinion to have without having seen the movies but if she had, I bet she would have doubled down on it.
Perfect and straight to the point, there isn’t much you can argue with what she says:
“Well, I haven’t seen them. Because I heard that the Alien doesn’t beat the Predator and I thought, ‘Fuck that.’”
Fans of either franchise can probably think of a slew of other reasons to have not watched these movies. Clearly though Weaver is fully on the side of #TeamAlien. Honestly, was there any doubt? Aside from starring in four ‘Alien’ movies the very fact that she can constantly survive and even take on an Alien Queen makes Ripley that much more of a bad ass if the Aliens are able to take on predators.
While it is doubtful that we’ll be seeing another crossover between the two franchises at any point in the near future we do know that ‘The Predator‘ and ‘Alien: Covenant‘ are in production with Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Alien’ sequel still in the works as well.
