Famke Janssen has a few thoughts on ‘Dark Phoenix.’ As the original Jean Grey for Fox’s Mutant-filled Marvel films, the actress had been able to tell an extremely limited version of the story in ‘X-Men: The Last Stand,’ and is actually quite thrilled that the new one shines the spotlight on Jean. For such an epic tale, Janssen’s transformation into Dark Phoenix felt incomplete without it being the sole focus of the film.
According to the actress:
“I’m just happy that Dark Phoenix got her own movie because she deserves it. And it’s a really powerful and very important story in the comics, that in The Last Stand we just touched upon the tiniest part of. It was something that needed to be told as a full-blown film, and now that’s happening. And it’s wonderful.”
The movie has been getting mixed results as many of the “X-Men” movies have in recent years but still feels like a decent send off to the franchise. As to Janssen being replaced by Sophie Turner in the role, she harbors no hard feelings. In fact, Turner had reached out to Janssen before taking it! As Janssen revealed, “She did [reach out before initially taking the role] and she reached out again, and she’s lovely. I’m so excited to see the film.”

This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet. The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.
‘Dark Phoenix’ will rise in your local theaters on June 7th, 2019!
