Famke Janssen (‘X-Men’,’GoldenEye’) would love to reprise her role as Jean Grey in the ‘X-Men’ Cinematic Universe and believes sexism is what is preventing it from happening.

We all know that ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past‘ has given us a fresh timeline for Fox Studios to play in and with it comes a reintroduction to the X-Men that will have Sophie Turner (‘Game of Thrones’,’Barely Lethal’) tackling the role of Jean. However, while some of the A-List actors were able to work across from their counterparts in the previous film, it seems that the older and ‘First Class’ versions are coming to an end with only the newer iteration of the actors carrying on.

At least for the women of the franchise. We all know that a certain Hugh Jackman will be done popping his claws as Wolverine sometime soon but will still be in at the very least ‘X-Men: Apocalypse‘, a third Wolverine movie, and quite possibly a Deadpool movie as well.

While the timeline and current direction of the films seem to make the idea of this unlikely, Janssen believes that sexism is the key to this not working out for her. While she would love to reprise her role again, it doesn’t seem like it will happen:

“It’s not the first time obviously that it’s happened. In the X-Men series, they’ve been doing this for years.

Although women: it’s interesting because they’re replaced and the older versions – or more mature, whatever the politically correct version of that is – are never to be seen again. Whereas the men are allowed to be both ages. Sexism.

I think that I should be back along with my younger version and the way that we’ve seen it with Magneto (Patrick Stewart / James McAvoy) and Professor X (Ian McKellen / Michael Fassbender).”

With time travel likely being over for the ‘X-Men’ in the foreseeable future, I don’t really see this being about sexism and more about where the movies are in the timeline. Unless we see something from Bishop or Cable’s future and have her pop up there in ‘X-Force’, the next ‘Deadpool’, or if the third Wolverine has her alive in the ‘Old Man Logan’ story arc, it doesn’t seem feasible. Hell, the only stretch could be if the younger Jean she saw her future self if they do a take on “The Dark Phoenix Saga” next and even that would make it unlikely for an extended interaction between the two.

She isn’t holding things against Turner though as she is “really excited” to see her take on the role:

“She emailed me before she started filming, wanting some pointers. And I said, ‘You don’t need any. You’re perfect. You’re great’. So I can’t wait to see the movie and what she’s done with it.”

What are your thoughts on Janssen’s sexism claim for not returning to the X-Men universe? Is this a case that is valid or does it just not seem feasible due to where we are in the cinematic timeline? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
