Zack Snyder's 'Army Of The Dead' Finalizes Casting

Zack Snyder is returning to both the director’s chair and zombies with his upcoming film ‘Army of the Dead’ and has just hit a milestone for pre-production as he has finished casting the movie! Joining Dave Bautista will be Ella Purnell (‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’), Ana De La Reguera (‘Goliath’), Theo Rossi (‘Luke Cage’), and Huma Qureshi (‘Kaala’).

Of the actors, we’ve learned that Purnell will be playing Dave Bautista’s daughter, Kate, whose initial character description for casting was described as “Taciturn, hard-working, driven. She is Scott’s daughter but estranged from her father. She is a volunteer with the World Health Organization.”

Who the other actors will portray have yet to be revealed however due to Ana De La Reguera’s ethnicity she might be a good fit for “Cruz” who is said to be a female in her late 30s-40s, Latina, a mechanic, owner of a body shop. Hard-drinking and tough-talking, and more than happy to join the mission into the zombie stronghold.

Assuming these final casting calls, we could see Qureshi playing “Lilly” who is listed in the casting description as someone in her late 20s-30s, “restless, a tough cookie, also known as the Coyote, helping those, who, for whatever reason, need to get back inside the zombie stronghold. She’s canny and crafty, with all the skills to survive in the most hostile of environments.” However, she could also be taking on the role of “Adeline,” a “disenfranchised immigrant, a refugee, she’s a single mom with two young children, willing to do anything to keep her kids safe.”

Finally, Rossi is the tough one. My guess would be that he is playing “Burt Cummings (30s): Thin, with a “porny mustache,” greasy-haired, this guy is a tobacco-chewing, self-important jerk, cocky and alienating, who is taking advantage of the power he has obtained over the refugees.” The actor could also be playing “Martin (30s): A Ray-Ban wearing fellow in a suit, he is right-hand-man to billionaire Hunter Bly. Former head of security at Blye’s Las Vegas casino. No one is quite sure of his motivations.” However, after his work on ‘Luke Cage,’ I really feel that the first one might be a better fit.

Are you looking forward to checking out ‘Army of the Dead’? Do you think that we’re going to be in for an entertaining zombie film with Snyder back in the director’s chair? Is it possible he could find a way to unofficially tie this to his remake of ‘Dawn of the Dead’? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

[Army of the Dead] is set amid a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, during which a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble: venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted. Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder are producing, and Ori Marmur and Andrew Norman are overseeing it for Netflix.
