While fans of Zack Snyder’s work for Warner Bros. will likely never get a Snyder Cut of ‘Justice League,’ we can all be thrilled that he is set to return to directing. His first job back in the director’s chair will be for the upcoming action-horror zombie film ‘Army of the Dead.’ Snyder will be both directing and producing the movie with his wife, Deborah Snyder. This won’t be Snyder’s return to the big screen however as the movie is slated to be released through Netflix.

While Snyder came up with the idea for the film, he left scripting duties to Joby Harold. According to reports, ‘Army of Dead’ will be  a heist movie set in the center of a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas. During the epidemic, “a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.”

It makes you wonder what might be so valuable in a potential post-apocalyptic world to risk everything. It should be fun to find that out as more details emerge.

The film was first at Warner Bros.’ back in 2007, and Netflix has taken over the film which is set to begin production this summer. They’ll be betting big on the movie with a production budget of up to $90 million.

According to Snyder:

“There are no handcuffs on me at all with this one. I thought this was a good palate cleanser to really dig in with both hands and make something fun and epic and crazy and bonkers in the best possible way.”

Snyder made his name in films with the 2004 release of ‘Dawn of the Dead’ so it feels fitting that his return to filmmaking will also be with zombies after the family tragedy which made him put a focus on family first.

“I love to honor canon and the works of art, but this is the opportunity to find a purely joyful way to express myself though a genre. It will be the most kick-ass, self-aware — but not in a wink-to-the-camera way — balls-to-the-wall zombie freakshow that anyone has ever seen. No one’s ever let me completely loose [like this].”
