Joss Whedon’s New HBO Series 'The Nevers' Lands Laura Donnelly As A Lead

While HBO will soon be without its flagship ‘Game of Thrones,’ the network is busy bringing us multiple new shows and one is by creative guru Joss Whedon who wants to introduce the world to ‘The Nevers.’ The latest news on this science fiction drama is that the series has landed Laura Donnelly (‘Outlander,’ ‘The Fall’) to star who we can next see in the upcoming ‘Tolkien‘ biopic. Whedon is directing the show and co-writing this straight-to-series drama with Jane Espenson and Doug Petrie who he previously worked with on ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer.’ The three will also serve as executive producers alongside Bernie Caulfield.

While not much is yet known about ‘The Nevers,’ we do know that it will be “an epic science fiction drama about a gang of Victorian women who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and a mission that might change the world.”

As to Donnelly’s character, she’ll be playing Amalia True. A member of the gang mentioned above, she is also “the most reckless, impulsive, emotionally damaged hero of her time.” Not only will she “die for the cause” that they believe in as they rebel against a “stuffy Victorian society,” but she’ll go so far as to “kill for a drink.”

Of the actress, Whedon shares that:

“Laura Donnelly has charisma, wisdom and an anarchic precision that not only captures Amalia but defines her. She’s fierce, and she’s funny – and I need both for the journey ahead.”

It sounds like we’ll be in for a new tale of women making a mark on society in new and fun ways. With this being a direct order from HBO you can imagine that we’ll be in for quite a few seasons of entertainment.

Are you excited to see ‘The Nevers’ land on HBO? Will Joss Whedon be able to capture the magic he has in previous shows? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
