Jessica Chastain’s character is going to have a major influence over Jean Grey and is likely a shapeshifting alien but beyond that, her ‘Dark Phoenix‘ motivations have been a mystery. In fact, the studio has yet to reveal which character from the “X-Men” universe she’ll be portraying or would be based on. It isn’t clear why it has been such a mystery and what impact the reveal will have on audiences, but it won’t be much longer until audiences find out as the release date for the film inches closer.

Of the secrecy surrounding Chastain’s character, Simon Kinberg shared that
“The plan is to keep it mysterious as long as humanly possible. I mean, one of the things I loved growing up watching movies. The most seminal movies for me growing up were the Star Wars films. What I loved about them is I had no idea what was going to happen when I walked into the theater. What we’ve tried to do — Hutch [Parker, producer] and I both produced Logan — part of what we really tried to do with that film and we’re trying to do with this is retain some of that mystery, retain some of the experience of going into the cinema not knowing everything about the movie before you see it, and just sort of having it be the sort of experience we had growing up.”
On the one hand, we can blame “Star Wars” for this mystery, but it still seems as if it might be overhyped that we aren’t aware who Chastain is playing quite yet. It almost feels like a forced reveal for fans at this point unless we’re getting someone new and haven’t been told because even the most hardcore fans wouldn’t know who she is playing.
