NAACP Image Awards

The NAACP Image Awards were handed out at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, CA on Saturday, March 30th, and while Jussie Smollett’s name sure came up a lot during the ceremony, he definitely didn’t win anything.  Even though we’re into the fourth month of 2019, it appears it’s never too late to honor the creative projects released last year.  Not surprisingly, ‘Black Panther’ was the biggest winner of the night, at least in the film division.

The Marvel Superhero Flick took home ten awards (some of which were announced prior to the telecast) for Outstanding Motion Picture, Actor in a Motion Picture for Chadwick Boseman, Breakthrough Performance: Motion Picture for Letitia Wright, Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for Michael B. Jordan, Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for Danai Gurira, Ensemble Cast, Directing in a Motion Picture (Film) [theatrical] for Ryan Coogler, and Writing in a Motion Picture (Film) for Ryan Coogler, Joe Robert Cole.  The soundtrack album, curated by Kendrick Lamar also won Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration for All The Stars by Lamar featuring SZA, and Outstanding Soundtrack/Compilation.

Jordan also won for Outstanding Actor in a Television Movie, Limited-Series or Dramatic Special for HBO’s ‘Fahrenheit 451’, which he also produced.

In non-‘Black Panther’ news, Samuel L. Jackson won Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance (Television or Film) for his role as Frozone in ‘Incredibles 2’.
