Stranger Things

‘Stranger Things’ may celebrate old school technology like walkie talkies, ham radios, and VHS camcorders, but away from the screen, the franchise is flourishing in the oldest medium– books.  In addition to ‘World Upside Down: The Official Behind-The-Scenes Companion’ an examination of the creation of the show with input from the cast, crew, and creators, Gwenda Bond’s ‘Suspicious Minds’ was the first original novel tie-in, and examined the life of Eleven’s mother, Terry Ives, before and after she becomes the test subject of Hawkins National Laboratory.  A second novel, ‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’, will be published in May and will reveal exactly what was inside that box labeled “New York” in Hopper’s cabin.  Now, a third book in the series has been announced, ‘Runaway Max’, written by Brenna Yovanoff, and will focus on– who else?– one of Hawkin’s newest arrivals, Max Mayfield, played on the show by Sadie Sink.

A lot of Max’s backstory was teased in ‘Stranger Things 2’, but this will explore that in detail.

Don’t miss this gripping, emotional prequel to the hit Netflix series, Stranger Things! The never-before-told backstory of the beloved Dig Dug maven, Max Mayfield, written by New York Times bestselling author Brenna Yovanoff.

This must-read novel, based on the hit Netflix series, Stranger Things, explores Max’s past–the good and the bad–as well as how she came to find her newfound sense of home in Hawkins, Indiana.

Viewers already know that Max is a California girl, whose mother, Susan, married to asshole Neil Hargrove, who had a potentially even bigger asshole teenage son, Billy.  Presumably, because of Neil’s job, the family relocates to Hawkins.  (It’s never really explained, although the book will probably go into that.)  Neither Max nor Billy is thrilled with the situation, but Max finds herself fitting in with the AV Club while Billy bullies his way in with the older kids.

All of the ‘Stranger Things’ books are published by Randon House.  In addition, Dark Horse has published one comic book miniseries, with another, subtitled ‘Six’, the first issue if which is scheduled to be released on the same day as ‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’, on May 28.

‘Stranger Things: Runaway Max’ will be released on June 4, 2019, exactly one month before Netflix unleashes ‘Stranger Things 3’ on July, 4.
