Clark Gregg Avengers Coulson

Just like in the comics, Loki was responsible for bringing The Avengers together in the Marvel Cinematic Universe only on the big screen it was due to his killing of Agent Coulson. Actor Clark Gregg would later be returned to the land of the living on Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ but that news hasn’t translated to the big screen and it would appear that The Avengers never found out that their S.H.I.E.L.D. contact and friend was alive once more.

Which, is interesting considering he and S.H.I.E.L.D. were briefly public enemy number one after Coulson’s team kept running after the organization was disbanded due to the whole Hydra infiltration.

While one could argue that Captain America may have been too busy to somehow hear about this while hunting down actual Hydra threats, Gregg shares who he believes would have known:

“In my mind, Captain America doesn’t know he’s alive. It’s bittersweet to me. We know that Nick Fury knows, obviously, we’ve seen him. And I feel like Tony Stark knows things–he just finds a way to know things–but I think the two of them have had a blunt conversation about it and decided not to share it further. And then we had Lady Sif promise not to tell Thor–but I don’t know how much I believe that. And Maria Hill knows, she’s spent time with him–but I think everyone else is just keeping it a secret.”

It is possible that Steve Rogers didn’t have time to watch the news and was too busy with missions to hear about this. Still, if Stark found out, you would imagine that either Hawkeye or Black Widow could feasibly have heard about it as well. There are loose ends here that I’d love to see addressed but we sadly likely won’t with Coulson dying at the end of last season and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ likely bringing about the death of one or mofre of the original Avengers.

Which of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes do you think may have known that Agent Coulson was alive again? Is it feasible that none of them were the wiser about their friend’s resurrection? Share your thoughts in the comments below, True Believers!
