New Mutants

While it appears that things are progressing as planned for ‘Dark Phoenix’, the fate of Josh Boone‘s horror-infused ‘New Mutants’ remains up in the air.  Rumors swirl that the picture may be permanently shelved or release on Hulu or Disney+ instead of in theaters.  One thing that appears certain at this point is that ‘New Mutants’ isn’t yet complete.  According to the Hollywood Reporter, reshoots haven’t taken place yet, and none are planned.  From the sound of things, this is in the hands of Boone.  But considering that the movie is supposed to be out this year, these need to happen sooner rather than later.  After all, this cast is busy with other upcoming projects– Maisie Williams with ‘Game of Thrones’, Charlie Heaton with ‘Stranger Things’, Blu Hunt with ‘Another Life’, etc.

‘New Mutants’ was originally supposed to be released in April 2018, but was pushed back to February 2019, reportedly to give ‘Deadpool 2’ more breathing room at the box office.  It is currently still scheduled to open in theaters on August 2, but it becomes increasingly unsure if it will actually make that.

‘New Mutants’ was the last Marvel-based movie put into production before Disney won the bid to buy out 21st Century Fox.  (Unless you count ‘Once upon A Deadpool’.)  Since that occurred, many have been wondering what would become of the last two films.  Rumors have also swirled around ‘Dark Phoenix’ with some saying that it would also be shelved, but the release of a new trailer last week seems to have killed that buzz.  Perhaps the same thing will happen with ‘New Mutants’ in the near future.

Held in a secret facility against their will, five new mutants have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world — they’re just trying to save themselves.

What do you think?  Do you still want to see ‘New Mutants’ on the big screen?

Directed by Josh Boone ‘New Mutants’ stars Charlie Heaton, Blu Hunt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Henry Zaga, and Alice Braga.
