gambit

Believe it or not, 20th Century Fox still wants to make that ‘Gambit‘ movie. And even more incredible, Channing Tatum is still attached to the project.  Just this past July, Tatum reaffirmed his commitment to the project, and also gave some insight into the latest delays:

“We got really lucky. We had a first draft it was good, but we were coming to at a time at that creative phase of [the X-Men], where these movies went through a bit of a paradigm shift, where the X-Men movies and the superhero movies with Logan and Deadpool really broke down a lot of doors for us. We were trying to do some things that we actually weren’t allowed to do, and they just smashed down the doors, and now we’re giving it a bit of a rethink.”

For those who do not remember, the biggest blows to the ‘Gambit’ movie have been its inability to hold onto a director, at one point Rupert Wyatt (‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’) was attached to direct and then left due to conflicts behind the scenes. Then Doug Liman (‘The Bourne Identity’) came on board to direct, and he left claiming he could not connect to the project/ character. All of which meant a lot of delays for the film, which at one point was scheduled to start shooting in October of 2016, which clearly did not happen.

The good news now is that The Hollywood Reporter is claiming that Gore Verbinski, the man behind Disney’s original three ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ films, might be on-board for ‘Gambit,’ which would be a huge boon for the franchise. Verbinski brings a lot of talent, style, and clout to the project, as he is still well-known for the work he did for the ‘Pirates’ franchise as well as his more recent ‘A Cure For Wellness’ film, and could be the final ingredient to finally getting ‘Gambit’ back on track.

What would you think of Verbinski helming ‘Gambit’? Does he seem like the right fit/ do you think his particular style would work for the character? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
