M.O.D.O.K.

Patton Oswalt is about to get a big head when he and Jordan Blum bring ‘Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.‘ to animated life on Hulu. The streaming service just picked up four animated shows that will lead to a ‘Defenders’ spoof titled ‘The Offenders’ and each of them is going to have something different for audiences.

‘Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.’ may stand out the most with a focus on a villain who once ran AIM and will be in charge of his own organization. In fact, the series will show the character as he “struggles to maintain control of his evil organization and his demanding family.”

Bringing the series to life are executive producers Patton Oswalt (‘A.P. Bio’,’Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’), Jordan Blum (‘American Dad’,’Community’), and Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb. On being able to help write the show, Oswalt has shared that:

“I could not be more excited for you guys to see what we do with M.O.D.O.K. He’s the character I was, sadly, born to play.”

Expanding on this, Blum said:

“Who is M.O.D.O.K. to me? Well, you have to start at his creation. I find M.O.D.O.K. to be just as iconic as all the other classic Jack Kirby / Stan Lee collaborations. Kirby’s design is the stuff of nightmares, yet he’s also somehow… slightly adorable? Stan Lee wrote him as this amazing, flawed character, always being undone by his inflated ego and thin skin. Over the years he’s been portrayed as both a menace and a joke, and I think our show is much more interested in exploring him as a human being. A human being who’s also a Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing! At the end of the day, M.O.D.O.K. is a giant-headed, petulant, insecure, egomaniac with zero social skills. And I for one find that incredibly relatable.”

This take on M.O.D.O.K. sounds more in line in how the Mobile Organism Designed Only for Killing has been featured in recent years. We’ve seen him strongly humanized in his ‘Secret Avengers’ run that had him working with S.H.I.E.L.D. and developing an attraction towards Maria Hill that really started to flesh out his character.

Are you looking forward to ‘Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.’ appearing on Hulu? Do you feel that he’ll end up being more heroic than a villain as the series progresses and we’re given the ultimate team up in ‘The Offenders’? Share your thoughts in the comments below, True Believers!
