Now that Netflix and Marvel have given fans the release date of January 18th and the first teaser for ‘The Punisher’ Season 2, it seems as though the floodgates are officially open and they are letting out everything they have to promote the series in the limited time they have before it is available to the public. Yes, the lack of adequate marketing time it is a sign that Netflix seems to care less and less about their corner of the MCU. They will most likely cancel the series a few weeks after it is released, just as they did for its brethren shows, but we can still enjoy what we have for now.
The newest ‘The Punisher’ Season 2 trailer is jointly narrated by Frank Castle aka The Punisher and Billy Russo aka Jigsaw, who we are getting our first look at post-Season 1 injuries, with a scarred face, and with a mask that he will ostensibly be wearing on-screen to cover up those scars which he received at the hands of Frank at the end of Season 1. The trailer does not show much else besides those two men, and even their words do not tell us much about the season itself. It just gives us a sense of the tone and motivations of the characters, but it does help build excitement and remind us of Frank’s mission and what he stands for.
Despite rumors of cancellations due to the shaky relationship between Marvel and Netflix at the moment, Jon Bernthal seems wholly focused on the character of Frank Castle at the moment, sharing earlier this year at a convention that:
“For me, it’s not about — I have no aspirations or desire to do anything besides what I’m doing. I love this character, I believe in him, he’s in my bones, I feel honored to play him, and I want to keep playing him,” Bernthal told fans at ACE Comic Con. “So in all honesty, there’s no part of me that says, ‘Oh, I hope I’m in the movies.’ It’s whatever it’ll be. That being said, there’s one character and one actor that I just have the utmost respect for in the Marvel Universe and without a question, it’s Tom (Holland).”
