Rumors have been swirling for quite some time now about Jude Law‘s mystery character in ‘Captain Marvel‘ and most people have been betting that he would end up playing Mar-Vell. Now, we’ve been shown that the actor has officially been credited as Mar-Vell on Disney’s website for the film, but there is one glaring problem with this reveal. The House of Mouse has since stricken his name from the record leaving us to wonder if the not-so-surprise reveal happened early or if an intern accidentally slipped in some bogus information. It wouldn’t come as a surprise to see Marvel Studios trying to release false information on the Marvel Cinematic Universe or even keep something like this a secret, but it also feels that unless he is someone else entirely, that it is time to just officially admit that Law is playing Mar-Vell.
The image you can see here currently has the caption of “Leader of the Starforce,” though that wasn’t always the case.
Prior to it being changed, the caption stated that this was “Jude Law as Mar-Vell, the leader of Starforce.”
It isn’t clear why the studio is being so secretive around Law’s character at this point, but a previous leak from Funko Toys actually had him listed as Yon-Rogg who is Mar-Vell’s greatest enemy in the Kree Empire. This was before the character was renamed as “Star Commander.” It is possible that we could still see Law as Yon-Rogg who is jealous of Captain Marvel’s rise to power and fame within Starforce but only time will tell as to how this plays out.
Do you think that Jude Law will end up playing Mar-Vell as so many have already expected? Could he really end up playing Yon-Rogg? Share your thoughts in the comments below, True Believers!
Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.
‘Captain Marvel’ will be flying Higher, Further, Faster onto the big screen on March 8th, 2019!
