It has been reported that Michael Masini has joined the cast of  ‘Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)’ as a policeman named Officer Dargo.

This DC Comics adaptation is set to begin production in January, with  Cathy Yan directing and a script by Christina Hodson.  The film stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, who has just split from The Joker and strikes out on her own.  Her path finds her joining forces with Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as The Huntress as well as Gotham City police investigator Renee Montoya, played by Rosie Perez.  This quartet finds themselves trying to rescue Cassandra Cain, played by Ella Jay Basco, from the sadistic crime boss Roman Sionis, a.k.a. Black Mask, portrayed by Ewan McGregor.  ‘Birds of Prey’ also includes Chris Messina as another villain Victor Zsasz and Ali Wong in an undisclosed role.

It’s unclear how large a role Officer Dargo has in the film.  Masini is a soap opera vet, having starred on ‘Passions’ and ‘The Young and the Restless’ as well as The CW’s primetime revival of ‘Dynasty’.  He also starred on the one-season BET series ‘Rebel’.  Other previous TV appearances include ‘NCIS’, ‘Blue Bloods’, ‘Fresh Off the Boat’, ‘Franklin & Bash’, ‘Modern Family’, and ‘Anger Management’.  He has small roles in the upcoming movie ‘Bumblebee’ and the untitled Mr. Rogers biopic starring Tom Hanks.

As Robbie previously stated:

“I pitched the idea of an R-rated girl gang film including Harley, because I was like, ‘Harley needs friends.’ Harley loves interacting with people, so don’t ever make her do a standalone film.  She’s got to be with other people, it should be a girl gang. I wasn’t seeing enough girl gangs on screen, especially in the action space. So that was always a big part of it.”

‘Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)’ opens in theaters on February 7, 2020.
