Star Trek: Discovery

The second season premiere of ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ is now just over a month away, and CBS has given fans an early Christmas gift in the form of a new trailer. This one, though, is a little different. Past trailers for the upcoming season have largely focused on teasing the overarching plot and introducing “new” cast members in the form of Spock (who features more prominently in this trailer than in any other to date) and Captain Pike. To be sure, there is some of that in this trailer (including confirmation that the Klingon side of the narrative will see Tyler – and presumably L’Rell – return to the Discovery at some point), but it’s not the focus in the way it has been previously.

What this one does differently is place an emphasis on the tone of the second season, which is shaping up to be much more… well, fun than the first, which due to its wartime setting often found itself feeling rather grim (even by the standards of wartime ‘Star Trek’). But while the stakes remain high, ‘Discovery’ in Season Two seems like a show that’s a bit more willing to let its hair down and have a good time.

But don’t take my word for it. Keep scrolling for the trailer and a new promotional poster!

The official synopsis for the season reads as follows:

“Season two finds the crew of the USS Discovery joining forces with Capt. Christopher Pike on
a new mission to investigate seven mysterious red signals and the appearance of an unknown
being called the Red Angel. While the crew must work together to unravel their meaning and
origin, Michael Burnham is forced to face her past with the return of her estranged brother, Spock.”
