“Stuntman turned movie star, Daniel Cassidy became semi-famous after playing the demonic Blue Devil. But now, eight years later, Cassidy finds himself living out his days in frustration, pining for his former fame while on a collision course with destiny.”
‘Swamp Thing’ stars Andy Bean as Doctor Alec Holland, while Derek Mears portrays his plant elemental alter ego, wearing a practical suit. Crystal Reed stars as the series’ female lead, Abby Arcane, a scientist for the CDC who must return to her swampy hometown after a mysterious outbreak. The show’s main villain, Avery Sunderland, will be portrayed by Will Patton, while Kevin Durand appears in another villainous role as Jason Woodrue, and Virginia Madsen plays Avery Sunderland’s wife, Maria. Jennifer Beals, Henderson Wade, and Maria Sten complete the cast. James Wan is among the producers.
Ziering starred in all six of Syfy ‘Sharknado‘ movies, the last of which, ‘The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time’ aired in August of this year. Years before that, he spent ten years playing Steve Sanders on the original ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’. He will next appear in the Netflix series ‘Malibu Rescue’, which debuts in February.
The character Blue Devil was originally a stuntman trapped in a cybernetic suit, who used the suit’s abilities to act as a superhero. He was created in 1984 as an intentionally old fashioned, “fun” superhero as a reaction against gritty comics that were becoming popular at the time. He even had a sidekick, Kid Devil.
Later, he was dramatically altered and transformed into an actual, magical Blue Devil. He served as a member of the Justice League, as well as the mystical Shadowpact and the Sentinels of Magic. Presumably, on ‘Swamp Thing’ he will take the form of the latter.
Ziering’s Blue Devil joins another magical DC hero on ‘Swamp Thing’, the clairvoyant Madame Xanadu who will be portrayed by Jeryl Prescott.
‘Swamp Thing’ is now filming and is expected to arrive on DC Universe in late May or early June of 2019.
