Joe Russo Shares Why Adam Warlock Wasn't In Avengers: Infinity War

Fans of “The Infinity Gauntlet” story from the comics were all likely wondering why Marvel Studios didn’t include Adam Warlock in ‘Avengers: Infinity War.’ Joe Russo was recently asked specifically about this lack of an appearance and his answer not only made sense but was an insightful look into the guiding vision behind Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. While including Warlock would have made for some great fan service, it just wouldn’t have worked in the story that we’ve seen so far.

“We had a lot of pre-established characters and sometimes characters from the books, again, being a comic book fan, I don’t want to see a literal interpretation of a comic book I’ve read a hundred times because I don’t wanna go to a theater and know exactly what’s going to happen.
For me, it kind of ruins the experience of going to a movie. And sometimes we’ll take the arcs that have been assigned to different characters in the books and reassign them to other characters. Or we’re just taking inspiration from the books and really deviating from the storyline, in which case, the characters aren’t applicable to what we’re trying to do in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

On top of wanting to give us surprises and a new experience, Adam Warlock also hasn’t been established in the MCU at this time. While we’ve seen hints at him being introduced in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies, it really hasn’t happened yet. Having him come out of nowhere to save the day with such intimate knowledge of the current events would have made him feel shoehorned into the plot.

Do you wish that The Russo Brothers had found a way to include Adam Warlock into the events of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’? Are you glad that the story played out how it did or would you have preferred that the character had made an appearance? Share your thoughts in the comments below, True Believers!
