The Mandalorian

The Russo Brothers were recently allowed to visit the set of the upcoming live-action “Star Wars” series ‘The Mandalorian‘ and Joe Russo is sharing a bit about the experience. They already knew showrunner Jon Favreau from their work on The Marvel Cinematic Universe but on the day of their visit, they were able to watch Taika Waititi as he was directing one of his episodes.

Talk about a Marvel director meet up, on a “Star Wars” set of all things! Disney knew what they were doing when hiring the talent they have after buying both Marvel and LucasFilm.

While the brothers wouldn’t go into detail, Joe Russo did tease that we’re going to be seeing a new style of television with ‘The Mandalorian’ as Favreau is bringing something new to the table. Joe wouldn’t share what it is but did tease that:

“It’s amazing. We went down there to say hi to Jon. Taika was directing an episode, so we went to hang out with them. Jon is always at the forefront of cutting-edge tech, and he is shooting this in a way that no one has ever shot anything ever before. It’s pretty astounding.”

It is hard to imagine what that could mean, but it is a thrilling thought that we’ll be able to experience something else new when ‘The Mandalorian’ debuts on Disney+.

As to The Russo Brothers themselves, the pair were asked if they would ever be open to directing a “Star Wars” film after the massive success which they’ve had at Marvel Studios so far and the answer likely wasn’t too surprising:

“We grew up on Star Wars like everyone else did. I went to the theater when I was 11 years old to see Empire Strikes Back and sat in the theater from 11:30 in the morning until 10:00 at night and watched it back to back to back. So it was a huge influence on us growing up. Of course, we’d love to work, at some point, in the Star Wars universe, but right now our heads are in the middle of another movie.”

With the last of post-production on ‘Avengers 4’ likely eating up all their time, it isn’t a shocker that they’ve yet to decide what to focus on next.
