Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The underdog of comic book TV shows, ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ won’t be riding off into the sunset just yet.  ABC moved the show to summer, which is basically a dead zone and would seemingly indicate that the show was on its last legs.  But even though Season 6 won’t air until next year, ABC has announced that it has renewed the low-rated action series for a seventh season.  This news follows the recent revelation that even with its low numbers– at least by broadcast network standards– ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ still attracts more viewers than the most popular Marvel show on Netflix, ‘Daredevil’.  It also performs well overseas and the fact that Disney owns both Marvel and ABC makes it a cheaper investment than some other shows.  Ratings wise, ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ draws fewer than four million viewers, making it ABC’s least watched drama, but its numbers improve once DVR viewings are factored in.

However, the version of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ that returns may not quite be the same as fans have come to expect.  In the announcement of a seventh season, ABC listed the series’ stars as: Ming-Na Wen (Melinda May), Chloe Bennet (Daisy Johnson/Quake), Iain De Caestecker (Leo Fitz), Elizabeth Henstridge (Jemma Simmons), Henry Simmons (Alphonso ‘Mack’ Mackenzie), Natalia Cordova-Buckley (Elena ‘Yo-Yo’ Rodriguez) and Jeff Ward (Deke Shaw).  Not mentioned is Clark Gregg, who stars as the show’s lead, Phil Coulson.  At the end of Season 5, Coulson and May ran off together, but is it possible that only one of them finds their way back?  Perhaps when the show returns next summer, things will be clearer.

At any rate, along with this announcement, Bennet released an image of her as Quake in the upcoming sixth season (right).  As you can see, she gets a new, very different hairstyle.

Are you glad that ABC has lined up another season of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’?

Season 6 premiers in the summer of 2019.
