‘Westworld’ is reported to be eyeing Antonio Banderas to play the Big Bad on Season 3. Exact details are under wraps, but it is rumored that this villain is inspired by Javier Bardem’s character Raoul Silva from the 007 movie ‘Skyfall’.
Banderas gained notoriety in the 1980s starring in the films by Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar. After Madonna expressed interest in him in her documentary ‘Truth or Dare’, the door was opened for Banderas to gain fame in the US, in films like ‘Philadelphia’, ‘The Mask of Zorro’, ‘The 13th Warrior’, the ‘Spy Kids’ franchise, and voicing Puss in Boots in the ‘Shrek’ franchise and later in his own series. He recently earned praise for his role as Pablo Picasso on the series ‘Genius’. He remains in demand, co-starring in the upcoming ‘X-Men’ spin-off ‘New Mutants‘ and the family flick ‘The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle’.
‘Westworld’s co-creator Lisa Joy hinted at what viewers can expect from the show’s third installment:
“It’s going to be a whole new world. This series is about reinvention and scope. The first season was a more intimate look at the park from within the loops. In the second season, the hosts broke out of their loops and were able to explore more of the park. In the third season, they’ve broken out of the park itself. We’re in a new terra incognita. From the beginning, when Jonah and I were thinking about the series as far back as the pilot, we knew we wanted to explore other worlds in the park, and we also knew the one world we would start to see little glimpses of throughout the first two seasons was the real world, and that we would get there eventually – and when we did, it would be a whole new experience.”
Should Banderas sign on, he will join ‘Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul, another newcomer to ‘Westworld’.
The western town square set was recently destroyed in the Woolsey wildfires. It’s unclear if that will disrupt plans to film. It was expected that production on Season 3 would begin in March 2019 and stretch into October. There is no premiere date for the HBO series, but 2020 seems likely.
Series 3 will welcome back cast members Evan Rachel Wood, Ed Harris, Luke Hemsworth, Louis Herthum, Anthony Hopkins, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Talulah Riley, Angela Sarafyan, Jimmi Simpson, and Jeffrey Wright.
