Kevin Feige

Outside of eradicating half of all life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thanos is a big deal for the franchise and Kevin Feige is opening up a bit as to why The Mad Titan is so important. It is important to note that Josh Brolin’s has had very little actual interaction with any of the heroes or villains outside of Loki since his introduction and most of the characters don’t really know what he is capable of. Thor had been tracking a bit of what the villain was up to, and Gamora and Nebula knew what their father was capable of, but even Drax didn’t appear to know the full extent of what he would do after seeing what had happened on his own planet first happened.

Culling half of those who lived on his homeworld had only been one stop of many for the villain.

The following details come from Titan’s ‘Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years’ which has an intimate look into the MCU from many of the cast and crew from the series so far. Here, Feige has shared that:

“Thanos has been lurking in the shadows with a desire to obtain these Infinity Stones, which has played a big part in our other films. We’ve introduced the Tesseract, revealed to be the Space Stone; the Mind Stone, which came out of Loki’s scepter and then went into Vision’s forehead; and the Time Stone: the Eye of Agamotto that Doctor Strange wears is an Infinity Stone itself! And of course, the Guardians dealt with the Power Stone. So these storytelling devices that we’ve seeded into every film will continue to play a part and come together. We’ve been teasing this for six years. That’s a long time to tease something cinematically before paying it off. Thanos has to be the greatest villain in our movies.”

We’ll be seeing Thanos return in ‘Avengers 4‘ and likely a full reversal of what he had been able to accomplish in ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ but that doesn’t mean we’ll necessarily see the last of The Mad Titan here. In fact, if they don’t find a way to end his life it could just be a stepping stone to introduce future stories with the character.
