Avengers 4

‘Avengers 4’may be the most anticipated movie of 2019 and it sounds as though fans will get their money’s worth.  Co-director Joe Russo participated in an Instagram Live Q&A, meant to promote his new bar in Los Angeles, Duello and divulged that the creators (including his brother Anthony) are about half-way through the editing process and that the film currently clocks in at three hours long.

“We’ll see if that holds, but it’s sitting right at three hours right now… We’re about halfway through the editing process. We’re really just scratching the surface on our VFX shots.  There are more than 3,000 VFX shots in the movie; those require a lot of time and thought and energy and effort, and we’re very early in the phase of getting VFX done. We’ve just started work with Alan Silvestri on the score, and we’re still editing picture at this point.”

Keep in mind that ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ was two and a half hours long, but it was packed with characters and important events.  I personally don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say that they felt it was too long.  Russo has stated that he expects ‘Avengers 4’ to be longer, but perhaps not a full three hours.

“It could easily be a three hour film but we’re very hard on the material.  We like it to play at a certain pace. I’m sure that we’ll squeeze it…I do think it will be longer than Avengers 3.”

‘Avengers 4’ is due in theaters on May 4, 2019, but has been shrouded in mystery.  Many big budget films release trailers a year in advance, but that isn’t the case here.  However, Russo teased that fans may get a glimpse of the new film sometime soon.

“You may or may not see it before the calendar turns to 2019.”

What do you think?  Is a three hour ‘Avengers’ movie too long?  Or do you want all the ‘Avengers’ you can get?
