Robin Lord Taylor

We know that Robin Lord Taylor’s take on Penguin is going to gain some weight to look a bit more comic accurate for the final season of Fox’s ‘Gotham‘ and now the actor is sharing more hints for what is to come as well. With the revelation that we’ll be seeing Harley Quinn, Bane, The Mutants, and more, it feels like a stretch that there would be much screen time for the show’s first major crime boss who is still alive. Thankfully, that doesn’t sound like the case.

We know that time jumps are coming which will help him firmly establish his place in ‘Gotham’s new ruling order and according to Taylor:

“He’s in the best place he’s ever been, the second Jeremiah blows the bridges Gotham is shut off from the rest of the world. There’s a huge power vacuum, someone needs to step in and control, and as messed up as it is Penguin is one of the most qualified people to do that having been Mayor of Gotham as successfully, unsuccessfully- I’ll leave it up to the viewers to decide, but that’s an amazing opportunity for him to rebuild the power structure in Gotham city in his own image the way he wants it to be done.
Unfortunately that puts him right up against Jim Gordon, classically, as we’ve always sort of had going since the beginning is that dynamic between Penguin and Jim and so both of them trying to wrest control- and also not just from each other but from the rest of these rogues galleries of everyone controlling their territories. It’s forcing all of these characters to have to deal each other and come to the table regardless of past grievances.”

I’ve always enjoyed the dynamic between Gordon and Penguin since the first season. We’ve seen Penguin almost seeming to like Gordon at first before it turns into the two just using one another as frenemies and eventually evolving, or perhaps devolving, into the relationship which we see on screen now.

It’ll be interesting to see how Penguin has to change once again to work with and against so many significant players which he’s previously been partnered with or squared off against.

Are you looking forward to seeing how Penguin’s arc comes to a close on the final season of ‘Gotham’? Do you feel that he’ll end the series behind bars or continuing as is? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
