Paloma Faith

A ton of details have been slowly surfacing for ‘Pennyworth‘ but the general point of the show has been shrouded in mystery though Paloma Faith’s (‘Doctor Parnassus’,’Peter & Wendy’) casting may have just answered much of it. The pop star turned actress has been tapped to portray the leading villainess for the series and some of the details around what she is up to have helped give hints as to what will be happening. For audiences not familiar with her musical career, she is well known in the UK, but her work hasn’t made it in the US markets quite yet.

The actress will be taking on the role of Bet Sykes is “a cruel adversary who will test the courage of young Alfred Pennyworth and his new boss, Thomas Wayne, the future father of Bruce Wayne.” Her actual character is being described as a “spirited, sadistic and sharp-tongued villain” though it isn’t clear if like ‘Gotham’ she’ll be a new take on a pre-existing villain or entirely be created for the show.

Paloma is joining a cast which includes Jack Bannon as Alfred Pennyworth, Ben Aldridge as Thomas Wayne, Ryan Fletcher, and Hainsley Lloyd Bennett.

The series is slated to be a 10-episode 1-hour run that puts a focus on Aldridge as Thomas Wayne and Bannon as Alred Pennyworth as the two become friends and working partners. It sounds very much to be a spy-based drama as Pennyworth is “a former British SAS soldier in his 20s” who ends up forming a security company which Wayne hires. The series is set in the 60s, so Bruce has yet to be born.
