Chris Carter’s (”The X-Files‘, ‘Millennium’) pilot episode of his potential new show ‘The After‘ was met with mixed reviews. However, the pilot apparently had enough potential and interest for Amazon to pick it up for a full season! Honestly, while some interesting questions were dropped, it was only what they showed in the last few seconds of the first episode that really drew me in wanting to know more. Before that, I would dare to say that Carter has lost his magic. But if you think back, neither of his previous shows had strong openings and it wasn’t until further in that both Mulder and Scully or Frank Black really became interesting enough to start believing in.

Clearly the pilot program on Amazon is working even better than the first attempt as all of the pilots were watched twice as much as the initial batch of pilots that they aired. Maybe it is because a lot of the pilots streamed a lot more prominently on Prime this time around so the increase of exposure might be a mixture of more users, more exposure, and easier access. It’s good to see this as it is a great potential way for new shows to be picked! Hopefully with the success of one horror mystery show on the network it may lead to more original science fiction and horror content popping up on their online streaming service next pilot season.

If your unfamiliar with Carter’s new series, here’s a synopsis:

The After—from Chris Carter, the legendary creator of The X-Files—follows eight strangers who are thrown together by mysterious forces and must help each other survive in a violent world that defies explanation. Aldis Hodge, Andrew Howard, Arielle Kebbel, Jamie Kennedy, Sharon Lawrence, Jaina Lee Ortiz, Adrian Pasdar and Louise Monot will be returning to star in their roles.
