The future of any Fox property not in production once the deal with through with Disney is unclear but Drew Goddard and Ryan Reynolds are still keen on making an ‘X-Force‘ movie. If the pair gets their way, it would end up being the next film which the duo would make but they still need to talk to Disney and Fox to see if it could happen. We know that Disney has been keeping a tight lip on their plans for the ‘X-Men’ and ‘Fantastic Four‘ franchises once Marvel Studios ends up in charge of them but the studio has said that any X-Men films in production when the buyout happens will be allowed to be completed.

If anything, it sounds more like Fox would need to rubber stamp this one for the film to see the light of day. At this time, Goddard is slated to write and direct the film, but the studio hasn’t put it into production quite yet which leaves its fate uncertain. While talking about his upcoming film ‘Bad Times at the El Royale,’ Goddard was, of course, asked about ‘X-Force’ where he shared not only that he and Reynolds were still talking about it and hoping it would be made:

“I tend to focus very intensely on one project at a time. I sort of am just finishing up Bad Times here. I think once we do that, once we’ve birthed this movie out into the world, then it’ll be time to [figure out] what’s next, and meet with Ryan, and Fox and Disney, and figure out what makes sense.”

Goddard was asked if he thought Reynolds still wanted to play the Merc with the Mouth and he responded:

“I think so. Ryan and I have a very good communication, and we’re both incredibly excited about the opportunities. I think when you’re dealing with billion-dollar mergers, it’s hard to know what’s going to happen to be honest. Like when Disney and Fox are combining, those issues are so far above our pay grade! I’ve learned to just be patient and wait and see what happens, and go from there.”

If ‘X-Force’ doesn’t go into production or isn’t completed by the time the merger goes through, it could be the perfect opportunity to bring the characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I’m sure they wouldn’t have a hard time working in an after-the-credits scene which would allow Reynolds and a select group of characters to make a transition between universes which would bring them directly into the MCU.

A fun bonus on this would be that even if mutants weren’t readily shown in the upcoming Marvel Studios films, it would still allow for at least a reason that Deadpool and those from ‘X-Force’ could make appearances.

Do you hope that Fox puts ‘X-Force’ into production before the Disney buyout? What do you think the chance is that Marvel Studios would greenlight the film if it weren’t yet being made? Share your thoughts in the comments below, True Believers!
