We’ve already heard that James McAvoy would love to join the new “Star Trek” series about Picard and now Wil Wheaton is throwing his hat into the ring as well. While McAvoy would want to play the Jean-Luc of a different era, Wheaton would have a much more fitting inclusion in the series. Wil Wheaton hasn’t been involved in “Star Trek” since the final season of ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’ and the character himself only last seen in the background of ‘Star Trek: Nemesis’ during the wedding scene. While fans are eager to see Patrick Stewart once again as one of the most popular Star Fleet captains of all time, we have no idea where this new show will be taking him at this point.
One of the most exciting features though will be to see what happened after the events of ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’ and ‘Star Trek: Voyager.’
As Jean-Luc was often thought of like a father figure to Wesley, it wouldn’t be a stretch to see him appear in the new series even though no other ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ characters are slated to make a cameo at this time.
According to Wheaton:
“So, when they announced the Picard series, I got excited for Star Trek in a way that I haven’t been since the last season of Deep Space Nine. I got so excited for it because I love Patrick and I love that character and the Next Gen timeline, which is also the Deep Space Nine timeline, is the timeline that I love the most. It might be cheating a little bit because I was part of that timeline, so I’m emotionally invested in it, but I was a fan before I was part of the show, and I am thrilled that we are going to get to see what Picard is doing now. I’m excited about that.”
However, as to the role which put Wheaton’s name on the map he also said he would love to make an appearance if the opportunity came up:
“I think it is very unlikely they will ask me to participate in it. I mean, I think it is just extraordinarily unlikely that will happen. If they did, I would say ‘yes,’ of course. I think all of us would say ‘yes.’ I think all of us if we were given the opportunity to put on the spacesuits again and go work together and bring those characters back, as they would be thirty years later, we would all say ‘yes.’ And I don’t think it’s because we want the work. I don’t think it’s because we need the money. I don’t think it’s because we don’t have other things to do. It’s because we love each other so much and an opportunity, even for a day, to return emotionally to some of the best times of our lives, I think that we would jump at that opportunity.”
Not much is known of the new Picard “Star Trek” series at this point, but Crusher would be a fitting character to bring back to see his old mentor for either advice or just to confirm that their friendship has endured all this time.
