Deadly Class

Syfy’s upcoming series, ‘Deadly Class’, based on Rick Remender and Wes Craig’s ’80s-based Image Comic book, held a panel at New York Comic Con where a new trailer debuted, and new castings and the release date were announced.  Perhaps most pressing, ‘Deadly Class’ will premier on Syfy on January 16, at 10pm.

Remender, who is serving as executive producer of the series, was in attendance along with cast members Benedict Wong, Benjamin Wadsworth, Lana Condor, María Gabriela de Faría, Luke Tennie and Liam James treated those in attendance to a surprise screening of the first episode, but for the rest of us, a new trailer was made available.  Based on former First Lady Nancy Reagan’s “Just Say No” campaign of the time period, the new clip offers a few new glimpses of the show:

Also announced were some additional castings.

Isaiah Lehtinen was most recently seen on the Disney Channel original movie, ‘Freaky Friday’.  He has also appeared on ‘Project: MC²’, ‘Level Up’ and ‘Health Nutz’.  On ‘Deadly Class’, he will portray Shabnam, “King’s Dominion’s resident bookworm.”

Comedian Brian Posehn will appear “as metalhead Dwight Shandy.”  Posehn can be seen in a recurring role as Bert Kibbler on ‘The Big Bang Theory’ and on Go90’s ‘Mister Student Body President’.  Before that, he appeared in several episodes of ‘The New Girl’ and he contributes his voice to animated series such as ‘Steven Universe’, ‘Ginger Snaps’, ‘Billy Dilley’s Super-Duper Subterranean Summer’ and more.

Erica Cerra portrays Miss De Luca, the teacher of Beheading 101.  Cerra most recently appeared on ‘The 100’ as A.L.I.E. and Becca.  Before that, she appeared as Duma on ‘Supernatural’.  Cerra is a vet of numerous genre shows, including ‘The 4400’, ‘Smallville’, ‘Battlestar Galactica’, ‘Eureka’, ‘Reaper’, ‘Warehouse 13’, ‘Sanctuary’, ‘iZombie’ and ‘Lucifer’ and the movies ‘Blade: Trinity’, ‘Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief’, and ‘Power Rangers’.

French Stewart may still best be known for the sitcom ‘3rd Rock From the Sun’.  Most recently he had a recurring role as Rudy on the CBS series ‘Mom’ and before that played the principal, Mr. Cameron on ‘The Middle’.  On ‘Deadly Class’, Stewart plays “unpredictable psych teacher Scorpio Slasher.”

Olivia Cheng has a role on Cinemax’s upcoming series ‘Warrior’.  She previously starred as Mei Lin on Netflix’s ‘Marco Polo’ (which also starred Benedict Wong), and she had the recurring role as Linda Park on ‘The Flash’ and ‘Arrow’.  On ‘Deadly Class’, she plays “intense Master Gao, a 12th generation assassin who is considered royalty and has a special connection to Master Li.”

Finally, though he won’t appear in the flesh, Ice-T’s voice will be heard in an episode where the cast takes a “wild trip.”  Though he is best known as an actor nowadays, thanks to his role on ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’, during the ’80s, when the show is set, Ice-T gained notice as an edgy rapper.
