When John Goodman showed off his horror chops in ‘10 Cloverfield Lane‘ I knew that he needed to do more horror so am thrilled that he is going to be joining Vera Farmiga (‘Bates Motel’,’The Conjuring’) in ‘Captive State’! The trailer for Rupert Wyatt’s (‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’) upcoming film shows us a world where aliens have taken over and imposed peace upon the world. We can see that poverty and crime are almost completely eradicated but with it appears to be the removal of free will and a governing state that will impose their version of peace at any cost. The movie will be set in a Chicago neighborhood and will take place a decade into when these extraterrestrials have taken over the world.
You can check out the trailer of what is likely going to be a political and sociological thrill ride below!
Set in a Chicago neighborhood nearly a decade after an occupation by an extra-terrestrial force, Captive State explores the lives on both sides of the conflict – the collaborators and dissidents.
Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the description, but the trailer has me sold. This is a social experiment gone wrong and as the aliens are highly teased but not shown here, it should be interesting to see precisely how they factor into the world now that they seemingly control it with no real opposition. If you’d like to know more about the aliens though they are called The Legislature and a viral site for the film that shares what they’ve done for humanity has been set up right here.
Joining Goodman and Farmiga in the cast will be Machine Gun Kelly (‘Nerve’), Alan Ruck (‘The Exorcist’), Ashton Sanders (‘Moonlight’), Madeline Brewer (‘The Handmaid’s Tale’), and newcomer Jonathan Majors. David Crockett and Rupert Wyatt are producing with Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King on as executive producers. Focus Features will be releasing the film.
