Oscar Isaac

The Resistance will be returning to its original fighting form! If Oscar Isaac’s comment is correct, describing the Rebels as “guerrilla fighters” in ‘Star Wars: Episode IX‘ in terms of their tactical hit and run attacks is something that has been well established in the original trilogy but wasn’t front and center in the most recent set of movies. Now, these heroes will be getting back to basics when going up against the First Order.

We know that General Leia isn’t going to be long for the fight after Carrie Fisher’s tragic passing so even though the upcoming movie will contain a time jump that will allow for the Resistance to regroup, there wasn’t much left after the First Order decimated their numbers throughout ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi.’

When asked how the Resistance would fair going forward, Isaac shared that:

“[They] are guerrilla fighters, adhering closer to something like the Revolutionary War fighters or even the guerrillas in Cuba with Che and Fidel and all these guys living in the mountains, coming down to do some attacks, and going back and trying to hide from the ’empire’ of the United States. It’s that kind of ragged at this point.”

This doesn’t give us any real indication as to what they’ll be up to, but the style is more fitting with what the Rebels were doing against The Empire initially. J.J. Abrams clearly was paying tribute to the original trilogy with ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ and some of those aspects will be revisited here.
