Hulu will add to its adult animation schedule with two-seasons of ‘Solar Opposites,’ a comedy about aliens in the Midwest. The show comes from ‘Rick and Morty’ co-creator/executive producer Justin Roiland and executive producer Mike McMahan.
‘Solar Opposites,’ which should premiere in 2020, features the vocal talents of Roiland, with Sean Giambrone and Mary Mack. The series tells the story of a family of aliens from a better world who takes refuge in middle America. Apparently, they can’t decide whether Earth is “awful” or “awesome.” Same.
Roiland voices Terry and Korvo, Giambrone will provide the voice for Yumyulack, with Mack voicing Jesse. ‘Rick and Morty,’ which is co-created by Dan Harmon and Roiland, has seen tremendous success and was recently ranked as the #1 comedy across all of television for 2017 with millennials.
Hulu fancies itself the streaming home to the “largest offering of animated programming for adults.” This is based on the number of adult animated series featured on the site, including ‘Rick and Morty,’ ‘Family Guy,’ ‘Bob’s Burgers,’ and ‘South Park.’
‘Solar Opposites’ will certainly keep Roiland and McMahan busy, as ‘Rick and Morty’ recently received a 70 episode order from Adult Swim. ‘Solar Opposites’ should open a writers room in October, and was ordered a 16-episode first season 1 to premiere in 2020.
Hulu’s other new series orders include ‘Looking For Alaska,’ ‘Little Fires Everywhere,’ Four Weddings and a Funeral’ and ‘Ramy.’
