‘Supernatural’ is something of an unusual success story, as long-running series go. While the show has run for well over a decade with no end in sight, it has yet to successfully launch a spinoff. Of course, that’s not for lack of trying. The CW is nothing if not spinoff-friendly (just look at everything that’s come out of ‘Arrow’), and several attempts have been made to use ‘Supernatural’ as a launch pad for… something. Anything.
Of course, none of those attempts have yet gained enough traction to launch a series, and based on recent comments, the network may have accepted that it just isn’t happening, at least for the foreseeable future. Of course, the fact that ‘Wayward Sisters‘ didn’t get off the ground doesn’t mean that we’ve seen the last of those characters.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, ‘Supernatural’ showrunner Andrew Dabb confirmed that not only will the ‘Wayward Sisters’ cast return to the show in the course of its upcoming fourteenth season, the show will be dealing with some of the plot threads that were left dangling at the end of the backdoor pilot that aired during the show’s thirteenth season. Says Dabb:
“All of the characters are going to make their return one way or the other. We found a way to fold [them] organically into the plot line, and some of the hanging chads from the pilot last year ended up dovetailing nicely with some of the stuff Michael’s looking to do, and some of the stuff that’s going on in our world just generally. It all folds together pretty well, but they’ll definitely be in multiple episodes this season.”
