It has just been a messy week of news regarding the future of James Gunn‘s vision for the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The famed director was fired from Marvel Studios by Disney after a spotlight was put on tweets he had made ten years ago that were past offensive, and the family-friendly company decided that they had to cut ties with the director.

In a world that has become quite politically correct, this seemed like the right decision, especially as Gunn’s jokes weren’t acceptable at the time they were posted. Only, things have spiraled out of control a bit since then. Some proponents are taking this up as a redemption story where Gunn has matured in the last decade and Disney should recognize that. The rest of the cast from the film have vocally supported the director and even Dave Bautista who plays Drax said that he wouldn’t play the part if Gunn’s script is not used in the upcoming film.

This last piece was brought up just before it was announced that Disney was looking to find someone else to write it. Feelings are mixed as to if it will or won’t be used as we’ve heard conflicting reports on it at this time. However, the most recent report states that the Gunn written ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’ script is what the studio will use for the film.

Not only that, but we’ve also heard rumors that backchannel conversations are happening between Marvel Studios and Disney where Kevin Feige himself is working to have Gunn fully reinstated on the film. Yes, not just to include his script but to direct the movie as well.

As always, no official names are on the record but it does sound like Gunn’s script is being used, and there is even a glimmer of hope that he could be reinstated as the film’s director. With that in mind, it still seems like a stretch for a decision made by Disney that went all the way up the chain of command would end up changing now.

Do you think that Disney will end up allowing Marvel Studios to use James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ script? Could the studio even find a way to save face while bringing the ousted director back into the fold? If Gunn is allowed to return, will he retain the same creative control that he has been able to enjoy crafting the cosmic site of the MCU? Share your thoughts below, True Believers!
