Fans of the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are hoping that Marvel Studios brings James Gunn back into the fold, but if they don’t, he isn’t going to have problems finding work. It sounds as if the director has already been approached by multiple producers and executives about tentpole movies and franchises, but until everything is worked out one way or another with Disney, there can’t be any traction on them.

While Walt Disney Studios may have fired James Gunn from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ a vocal fanbase and franchise cast may have allowed for the director to return. If that doesn’t happen though, a slew of production companies is already trying to get his attention for conversations that they can’t have with the visionary creator until the final contract with Marvel is either closed out or re-signed.

A senior executive who wanted to remain anonymous, as he can’t legally approach Gunn until his Disney exit negotiations are finalized, stated, “I’d work with him in a heartbeat.”

Another major studio exec went into further details sharing that, “I’ve been advised that we can’t bring anything to him until the Disney matter is 100 percent resolved.”

One can only imagine how much a new YA property would be interested in his work or, more likely, a competitive cinematic comic world might want to have Gunn’s guiding vision help shape and craft a successful franchise that has otherwise been struggling.

While whichever studio that hires Gunn might feel some pushback from the vocal audiences who have demanded the director be removed from Disney, most other companies don’t have the same family-friendly requirements for those that they work with these days as the House of Mouse. This should be noted to be true as another rival studio exec shared that “Most people feel his comments were coming out of his brand of comedy [at the time he made them]. Having an inappropriate sense of humor shouldn’t be a crime.”

What franchise or film would you like to see James Gunn tackle if he doesn’t return to Marvel Studios? Do you think that his creative vision could find the same success working on another property? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
