doctor sleep

We’ve got new actors joining the cast of ‘Doctor Sleep’ as Carl Lumbly (‘Supergirl’) and Alex Essoe (‘Starry Eyes’) have signed on and Zahn McClarnon (‘Westworld’) in talks to join the production. This follow-up to ‘The Shining’ will be an interesting film as most audiences are familiar with the original movie (which Stephen King notoriously hated) instead of his work original work. It will be a fine line in keeping those whose knowledge only extends to the theatrical release happy as well as the creator of the two books.

Thankfully, Mike Flanagan is tackling the project and has already worked with King in the past on his Netflix adaptation of ‘Gerald’s Game.’

The two confirmed new cast members have some prominent roles to fill. They’ll both be taking on new versions of characters there were seen in the first movie. Lumbly is set to play Dick Halloran who was originally played by Scatman Crothers while Essoe has to live up to the performance that Shelley Duvall gave us as Wendy Torrance.

As for McClarnon, if he signs on there is no word as to the role he would play at this time.

Lumbly, Essoe, and if he signs on McLarnon, will all be joining a cast that has Ewan McGregor in the role of Danny Torrance who is now an adult that is battling alcoholism and still dealing with the events which took place in The Overlook Hotel. Also part of the cast is Rebecca Ferguson who plays Rose The Hat. She is the leader a cult that feeds off those who have the “shining” power.

Are you happy to know that we’ll be seeing Dick Halloran and Shelley Duvall returning in ‘Doctor Sleep’? Do you think that they’ll be part of a flashback sequence or will they be main characters in the movie? Share your thoughts below!

‘Doctor Sleep’ is currently set to wake up in movie theaters everywhere on January 24th, 2020!
