Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse

A new image from Sony’s upcoming ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ that comes to us from the website Nerdist shows off some fan favorite Spider-Man costumes from the comics that will be seen in the new movie, hinting at the film’s connection to many famous storylines from the comics themselves and the possibility of seeing other well-known costumes that Peter Parker has worn over the years in the movie.

For those who might not be aware, the costumes in question are as follows: on the left, we have the suit that Spidey developed to fight the villain Electro (which negates electricity) which first appeared in 1997’s Amazing Spider-Man#425. In the middle, of course, we have the tried and true blue and red standard of Spider-Man, and on the right there is the suit referred to as the Secret War outfit, a SHIELD designed costume that Spider-Man wore on a mission with Nick Fury to overthrow the Latverian government (you know, the government controlled by Doctor Doom).

This just adds fuel to the growing speculation that the movie is going to be a massive celebration of everything Spider-Man as its hero, Miles Morales, explores the “Spider-verse” and learns what it means to be Spider-Man, what the hero has done in the past, what tech he has access to, what costumes he has donned and missions he has gone on, and even what other heroes have worn the mask besides Peter and Miles (the list is not long, but there are a few others).

I am personally really enjoying the whole vibe of ‘Into the Spider-Verse’ and screenshots like this just make me even more excited for the movie, as clearly the filmmakers know what they’re doing, have a definite love for the character and the world, and are going to be sprinkling quite a few easter eggs into the background throughout the movie for all the die-hard fans to pick up on.
