You could write volumes on all the criticisms that have been leveled at ‘Iron Fist’ since the show’s first season made its rather ignominious debut last year. One of the most damning, though, was that for a martial arts show, the fight scenes frankly left quite a bit to be desired.
With a little more than a month to go before the show’s second season arrives on Netflix, the cast and crew have been working overtime to assure fans that they’ve heard the criticisms of their freshman effort. But more important is what they’re doing to course-correct. The biggest change has been the replacement of the much-maligned Scott Buck with new showrunner Raven Metzner. But while a new showrunner means a new approach overall, what does that mean for the fight scenes specifically? Well, speaking to Entertainment Weekly, star Finn Jones addressed exactly that question:
“The majority of fights this season, if not all of them, are performed by all of the actors in the show this season and the doubles are used pretty minimally. It was awesome, I had such a great time working with Clayton (Barber) and his crew this year. I kind of miss it to be honest. I think fans will be really excited to see how the fight scenes come out because from what you saw last night, they’re awesome.”
Jones further noted that his own training for the new season was “long and brutal,” adding that it began four months before the start of filming. After filming began? Per Jones, it only intensified from there, with the star describing the cast’s training as “constant” during production.
The second season of ‘Iron Fist’ stars Finn Jones, Jessica Henwick, Tom Pelphrey, Jessica Stroup, Sacha Dhawan, and Alice Eve. The new season will debut on Netflix on September 7, 2018.
