For everyone who has managed to finish binge watching ‘The Defenders’ (such as yours truly, check out my first review here), you know that Marvel clearly saw some of the issues with ‘Iron Fist,’ namely what appeared to be a lack of training on the part of Finn Jones, and took steps to correct that for the big series starring all of their Netflix heroes. Iron Fist’s action scenes seemed way better during ‘The Defenders,’ and while I still have issues with the characterization of Danny Rand, at least they made some moves to make him more of the kung fu master he is supposed to be from the comics. And apparently, they are going to continue to push in that direction when it comes to the next season of ‘Iron Fist.’
According to a recent interview, Finn Jones states:
“Now, just gonna let you know, moving into Season 2 of Iron Fist, I’m actually starting my training next week. We’re at least four or five months away from shooting, so this time around, I’m being given a lot more preparation leading up to Season 2, which I think is really gonna have a huge improvement on the quality of the fight scenes in Iron Fist.”
I do appreciate Jones admitting (somewhat) that he might have been underprepared for ‘Iron Fist’ Season 1, and that he is working very hard now to please the fans who were less than pleased with his performance during that season. And if he delivers, I am more than happy to drop this as a topic, especially if the character also matures out of the whiny Danny Rand phase and finally gets him to the more zen master he appears to be in the source material (and drops this habit of telling everyone who will listen to him “But I AM THE IRON FIST!”)
What are your thoughts on Finn Jones stepping up his training game? Will it be enough to save ‘Iron Fist’ Season 2, especially since we know the series will have a new show runner, and might finally feature Danny Rand in full Iron Fist costume?
