We learned at San Diego Comic-Con that Rebecca Romijn (‘X-Men’,’The Librarians’) was going to play Number One to Anson Mount’s Captain Christopher Pike in ‘Star Trek: Discovery‘ and now the actress is opening up about her role. Originally played by Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, the wife of ‘Star Trek’ creator Gene Roddenberry, Romijn has some pretty large shoes to fill.

Romijn shares that she is a Trekkie who grew up watching The Original Series though didn’t know too much about who she’d be playing until the producers shared the details with her:

“I didn’t know the full story. I was asked if I’d be interested in a somewhat iconic role in the series and I jumped at the chance. I was a Trekkie as a kid with the original series. After I was filled in with all the details — after I said ‘yes’ — oh man, I was floored. It was amazing.”

She couldn’t share too much, of course, but did chime in on the costume that she’ll be wearing. Think back on the “mustard yellow” of the 1960’s uniforms:

“When they fit me, they fit me in the original gold uniform from Enterprise because Discovery takes place 10 years before the original series. But when they fit me for that uniform, I was teary-eyed. Because Enterprise was shot in the ‘60s, we’ve gone with a little bit of a ‘60s flair, which is great. And being there on set, there’s a ‘60s vibe on set. The production is amazing. Just walking through the stages up there, it’s gorgeous — really, really beautiful sets.”

Rebecca wouldn’t say if she was in the entire upcoming season but has stated that Spock was name dropped in some of the scenes which she’s shot.

“I’m working with Anson Mount, who plays an amazing Captain Pike, and we have discussed Mr. Spock. Mr. Spock has been a topic of conversation.”

I suspect we’ll be seeing Number One having at least a few lines of dialogue with everyone’s favorite Vulcan when he finally makes an appearance.
