Yellowjacket

It was heavily teased in ‘Ant-Man‘ that Yellowjacket ended up dying in the film, and now we’ve learned that isn’t necessarily what happened. While the movie closed with Corey Stoll’s Darren Cross all suited up and battling Ant-Man, we saw our hero go sub-atomic to take out Yellowjacket’s armor which caused him to be unable to stop himself from shrinking.

While this seemed to hint at the death of Yellowjacket, it could very well have been that he only shrank until he was in the Quantum Realm. Thanks to ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ we’ve all learned that Michelle Pfeiffer‘s Janet Van Dyne was able to survive for decades so why couldn’t Cross?

When asked about Marvel Studios’ tradition of getting rid of the initial villains for a hero, director Peyton Reed made an interesting observation:

“Well, I mean, you guys are making a massive assumption. There’s an assumption here that I’m not quite comfortable with. If you watch his death in the first Ant-Man, the suit is compromised…he shrinks and goes into a thing. I mean, he could be somewhere down there in that quantum realm.”

That right there leaves the “death” completely open-ended and might still leave an opening Cross to return. By finding a way for the character to fix his suit and return to standard size or from our heroes making future trips to the Quantum Realm and running into Cross, there are plenty of ways to make this work.

Considering Peyton Reed didn’t like the villain, I wouldn’t hold my breath on seeing him make a comeback.

Do you feel that Yellowjacket could still be out there in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Would you be excited to see him return in the third ‘Ant-Man’ movie or should he stay out of sight going forward? Share your thoughts below, True Believers!
