James Gunn‘s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ were full of Easter Eggs and one of them happened to be an inclusion of ‘Howard the Duck‘ who might just be heading back to the big screen on his own. It looks like Lea Thompson, who played Beverly Switzler in the original 1986 film, is going to pitch a new take on the character to Marvel Studios.
Yes, the actress from the film which was both a commercial flop and disliked by most critics and audiences has an idea on how to bring him back, ideally in a way that is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe from the brief shots that Gunn has given us.
We already know that he survived ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ so here is what Thompson had to say about ‘Howard the Duck’ when asked if she might cameo in any future films:
Thompson: Oh my god, from your lips to God’s ears. I don’t know. To tell you the actual truth, I am going to Marvel to pitch ‘Howard the Duck,’ a new movie.
Inquisitr: Really?
Thompson: Uh-huh.
Inquisitr: Wow.
Thompson: In like three weeks. I want to direct the ‘Howard the Duck’ remake [laughs]. Why not dream big, right?
Inquisitr: Absolutely!
Thompson: I’m into it.
In the past, we’ve heard from James Gunn that he wants more stand-alone characters in cosmic movies and Kevin Feige recently did say that he wanted more female directors helming films so this could be a match made in heaven! This would kill two birds with one stone, assuming the idea is to have Howard in space and not trapped on Earth as he was in the original film. It will be interesting to see if Thompson has been following the Marvel Cinematic Universe and has a pitch that would exist in what Marvel Studios has built so far.
