Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

So soon after learning that ABC has officially cancelled ‘Inhumans‘ we’ve heard some great news that ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ will be back for a sixth season! That is absolutely wonderful, but before anyone gets too excited, the network has only agreed to give us an abbreviated outing for next year. While the first five seasons have each had 22-episodes, this one has been cut down to 13-episodes.

At this time, the network also hasn’t shared if the next run will be the last episodes and give us a series finale or if we might get shorter seasons going forward. While I love these longer arcs that the writers have been cooking up over the last three seasons, I’ll take limited episodes over the network canceling ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ entirely.

The show has been on the bubble for quite some time and has been saved from mandates by Disney as well as last year seeing showrunners Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen negotiate a lower licensing fee. However, these saves seem to be harder to find and as much as fans will hate to face this unpopular fact, this next season will likely be the last.

For ratings, ABC gave the show a horrible timeslot, and it was still able to average 1.2 in the 18-49 demographic with nearly 4 million viewers factoring in seven days of delayed viewing. Not only that, but internationally the show is doing fantastic. We can always hope that this will just be a new trend for the show and not its death knell.

Are you thrilled to know that ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ will be back for at least one more outing? Do you think this means Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson will survive to continue leading the remnants of S.H.I.E.L.D. or will Chloe Bennet’s Daisy Johnson become the new director? Share your thoughts below, True Believers!
