black adam

With all of the big news coming out recently about New Line’s ‘Shazam!’ movie in production for the DCEU, many fans have been wondering what the status is of the film starring Shazam’s nemesis who was once supposed to be a major player in the ‘Shazam!’ movie. Of course, I am talking about Black Adam who in the DCEU will be portrayed by none other than Dwayne Johnson, a man fans are very excited to see in the role. While talking to Yahoo Movies recently about ‘Rampage,’ Johnson touched on the prospects of getting the ball rolling on ‘Black Adam’ in the near future, especially now that a script has come in that everyone likes (funny enough, written by the same screenwriter who wrote ‘Rampage’).

In Johnson’s words:

“The script came in, it’s great, we’re working on it. If things come together in the way we anticipate them coming together, that feels like a 2019 movie, in production.”

He also discussed his hopes that the movie will be able to properly adapt the source material, which he thinks pretty highly of:

“Marvel is doing such an incredible job of universe building and building out … and DC is doing a great job finding the footing and tone of their movies, certainly with like Wonder Woman, for example. I look forward to James Wan’s movie that’s coming out, with Aquaman. So, Black Adam is this phenomenal opportunity for us to nail the tone, make sure that he’s badass, make sure that we’re serving the mythology properly, but then, also make sure that we can have intrinsic DNA tied to a lot of other properties in DC. So, it’s not an easy thing to do, but I think we’re going to nail it.”

Of course, with Johnson as an executive producer on ‘Shazam!’ there is a good chance he could make a surprise cameo in that movie, especially with rumors that he and the DCEU producers have been in talks of late for the proper place to introduce the character to the universe, (with Johnson even telling the press they have a “a really cool surprise” regarding the intro) meaning we will most likely see Black Adam before he gets his own solo movie. The other most likely option for Black Adam’s first DCEU appearance would be during ‘Suicide Squad 2‘ as Black Adam has appeared in the ‘Suicide Squad’ comics before and there are rumors that Task-Force X might be seen hunting down Teth-Adam in the second film of the franchise.

But for now, we just have to be patient and wait for that moment when Johnson/ Black Adam appears on screen.
