Robert Picardo The Orville

Everyone’s favorite doctor from ‘Star Trek: Voyager’ will be reprising his ‘The Orville’ character for the second season! Not only that but it looks like he’ll be starring in an episode directed by Jon Cassar (‘Fringe,”24’) and working closely with Halston Sage who plays Lt. Alara Kitan who is the head of security on the show. Picardo became a fan-favorite during his stint as the non-Whovian character of The Doctor and having the ultimate tribute to “Star Trek” finding a role for him is a fun little bonus for audiences.

Picardo’s first episode on the series was ‘Firestorm‘ and here he played the father to Alara. It isn’t an extensive part and is all done when she calls to talk to him on their homeworld of Xeleya after tragically losing a crewmember.

The news came out of left field but was a welcome surprise when Seth MacFarlane tweeted out:

We’re hoping this means we’ll be getting more than Alara phoning home in the upcoming episode. It isn’t clear though if he would be visiting her on the trip or if they might be making a pitstop on Xeleya.

Either way, it breaks down to more of Picardo starring in genre work and that isn’t a bad thing! Now we just need to get the series to bring us some of the cast of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ in front of the camera and not behind it.

Are you happy to hear that we’ll be seeing more of Robert Picardo on ‘The Orville’? How do you think he’ll appear in the upcoming episode? What genre show would you like to see him pop up in next? Share your thoughts below!

The second season of ‘The Orville’ will warp back onto Fox later in 2018!
